Overview

The Director of Meter Data, Quality and Maintenance leads the full lifecycle of submeter data acquisition and maintenance, ensuring high-quality, timely utility data across thousands of properties. This role combines operational excellence with a hunter mindset - driving proactive strategies to maximize utility expense recovery and uncover new value opportunities. The ideal candidate is a data-driven leader with deep submetering expertise, a passion for utilities and a proven track record of influencing stakeholders and delivering measurable business impact.

Responsibilities

The Director of Meter Data and Maintenance is accountable for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of submeter utility data across a vast property portfolio. This role drives proactive maintenance and pursues new opportunities with a hunter mentality to maximize utility expense recovery and operational impact.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Strategic Leadership & Financial Oversight

 Manage P&L responsibilities exceeding $7M annually across data acquisition, quality and maintenance operations.

 Drive cost savings/scalability through process optimization and technology enhancements.

 Lead capital planning/investment strategies to support infrastructure upgrades and repairs.

• Meter Data Acquisition & Read Readiness

 Oversee utility consumption data acquisition for over 3,500 submetered properties, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

 Manage vendor relationships and subcontracted meter reading services, including schedules and fee structures.

 Conduct annual audits to identify and resolve missing revenue from meter read services.

• Submeter Maintenance & Expense Recovery

 Lead a team of service account engineers to deliver proactive maintenance, repair, and upgrade recommendations.

 Collaborate with RUSM Strategic Account Managers to enhance client recovery and support ~$50MM in recurring billing revenue.

 Evaluate submetering infrastructure and provide actionable insights to improve utility expense recovery.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Client Engagement

 Partner with internal teams (Client Success, Resident Billing, Engineering) and external stakeholders to resolve service delivery issues.

 Participate in client meetings to assess needs, present recovery opportunities, and develop capital investment plans.

 Cultivate a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning across global teams.

• Performance Management & Team Development

 Set clear objectives and provide coaching to ensure continuous growth/development of team members.

 Monitor KPI’s for data accuracy, read timeliness, and maintenance effectiveness.

• Compliance & Risk Management

 Ensure operations comply with legal and regulatory standards.

 Maintain high standards of data integrity and operational transparency.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related field (MBA preferred)

· 6+ years of experience in submetering, IoT devices, or utility data operations.

· 6+ years of leadership experience with a focus on team development and performance management.

· Proven ability to influence C-suite stakeholders and drive capital investment decisions.

· Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

· Experience managing global teams and vendor relationships.

· Up to 20% annual travel for customer meetings, team meetings and conferences.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

· Intermediate to advanced knowledge of submetering systems and resident billing processes.

· Passion for utility expense recovery and smart home technologies.

· Demonstrated dedication to understanding customer needs/market trends and translating them into actionable product strategies that deliver exceptional user experiences and measurable business outcomes.

· Strong ability to take complex/manual data and insights to transform into user stories that clearly deliver the “why” to include ROI justification.

· People-focused leadership style, with high emotional intelligence and a proven track record of developing, motivating and inspiring individuals and cross-functional teams to exceed expectations.

Compensation may vary depending on your location, qualifications including job-related education, training, experience, licensure, and certification, that could result at a level outside of these ranges. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus, and sales incentives depending on the terms of the applicable plan and role as well as individual performance.

Pay Range

USD $117,100.00 - USD $199,500.00 /Yr.
