Overview

We are seeking a highly strategic and analytical Director of Payments Credit Risk Management to lead and evolve our credit risk strategy for a rapidly growing payments platform that supports online and in-app payments for property management companies. This role is instrumental in safeguarding the company’s financial exposure by designing, implementing, and maintaining sound credit risk policies and oversight mechanisms.

As a key leader in the FinTech risk and compliance organization, the Director will oversee credit underwriting, exposure monitoring, risk analytics, and governance frameworks while collaborating closely with product, finance, compliance, and product teams to support scalable and compliant growth.

Responsibilities

1. Credit Risk Strategy & Governance

•Lead the development and execution of the enterprise-wide payments credit risk framework, aligning with business objectives, regulatory standards, and risk appetite.

•Design and maintain credit policies that govern the onboarding, underwriting, and ongoing monitoring of property management companies and associated counterparties.

•Define credit risk thresholds, controls, and escalation protocols to identify and respond to emerging risks.

2. Credit Underwriting & Monitoring

•Oversee end-to-end credit assessment and approval processes for customers (property management companies and renters) with a focus on cash flow, historical payment behavior, financial health, and operational risk.

•Implement and enhance risk models and scorecards used in customers onboarding and periodic reviews.

•Monitor aggregate credit exposure across portfolios and identify outliers, deterioration, or concentration risks.

3. Transaction & Counterparty Risk Management

•Collaborate with payments and treasury teams to evaluate and limit exposure arising from ACH returns, chargebacks, settlement timing, and float risk.

•Establish protocols for partner and counterparty risk evaluation, including ISOs, payment processors, and financial institutions.

4. Risk Controls & Compliance Integration

•Ensure credit risk practices are fully aligned with federal and state regulatory requirements, including those related to money transmission, anti-fraud, and consumer protection.

•Partner with the legal and compliance teams to ensure policy design and operational execution meet evolving regulatory and audit requirements.

•Conduct periodic reviews, audits, and control testing to ensure continuous policy adherence and operational soundness.

5. Data, Technology & Analytics

•Drive the use of data and analytics to optimize credit risk decisioning, automate manual processes, and support real-time risk assessment.

•Collaborate with data science, engineering, and product teams to design and implement risk dashboards, alerts, and workflows for proactive risk management.

•Analyze portfolio trends, loss drivers, and macroeconomic indicators to forecast and mitigate credit risk exposure.

6. Cross-Functional & Leadership Responsibilities

•Act as the primary risk advisor to executive leadership on payments credit exposure, trends, and incident response.

•Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing credit risk team capable of supporting a fast-paced and regulated environment.

•Provide leadership during risk incidents or partner escalations, conducting root cause analysis and remediating issues.

Qualifications

Required:

•Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Economics, Accounting, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

•10+ years of experience in credit risk management, with at least 5 years in a payments, FinTech, or financial services environment.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (List the concepts, capabilities developed through training, and innate traits and talents that a person brings to a task or situation)

Required:

 

•Deep expertise in merchant credit risk, transaction risk, and underwriting for B2B or platform-based payment services.

•Strong understanding of ACH, card networks, payment facilitation, and money transmission regulations.

•Experience working with property management, real estate, or recurring billing platforms is a strong plus.

•Demonstrated success leading cross-functional risk initiatives, implementing scalable controls, and managing complex risk portfolios.

•Advanced analytical and decision-making skills; comfort with SQL, risk modeling tools, or working alongside technical teams.

Compensation may vary depending on your location, qualifications including job-related education, training, experience, licensure, and certification, that could result at a level outside of these ranges. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus, and sales incentives depending on the terms of the applicable plan and role as well as individual performance.

Pay Range

USD $117,100.00 - USD $199,500.00 /Yr.
